DISTRICT 11 NORTHERN REGION

 

Leonard J. Gomes, an active member of Flotilla 12-5 in Fremont, passed over the bar on Monday, June 17th at his residence.  Born in Fort Bragg in 1960, Leonard had been a resident of Fremont for 33 years.

 Leonard joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1998 and held various staff positions during his years of service, including Vice Flotilla Commander, Computer Specialist and Public Affairs Officer.  Unable to serve in the Military due to medical reasons, the Coast Guard Auxiliary fulfilled Leonard's desire to serve his Country.  He enjoyed helping other people and serving as boat crew on patrols.  During the post September 11th period, he served as a Communications Specialist with the Sea Marshal program.

Leonard worked as a senior quality engineer for a local hi-tech firm and also served with the Santa Clara County Volunteer Search and Rescue Team.  He enjoyed operating his HAM radio, working on computers and boating.
