The 90's version of the Jaycees is similar to the original 1920 organization in name and philosophies only. It's like the difference between watching television then and now !
Inspired by a model organization of career-minded men in St. Louis, the Jaycees originally helped young men across the country to move up the ladder by community involvement and specialized training.
Like the members of most civic organizations of it's day, Jaycees were all cut from the same cloth: male, urban and upwardly mobile. As society changed so did the organization. Today, both men and women are joining at an equal rate. The organization is ethnically diverse and members are active in both large urban areas and small rural towns.
Because the organization is designed to promote the advancement of young people, the only limitation on members is that of age. The age range is 21 through 39.
The Jaycee Mission:
To provide young people the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills through local community service and organizational involvement while expanding the Junior Chamber Movement.
The Jaycee Vision:
To become the organization of choice for young people, providing direction and leadership to our communities and nation.
