It is with profound reverence and respect that the members of this Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police pay tribute to the VA Police Officers who have paid the ultimate price to defend freedom and liberty. Officer Bland was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a call in Bedford, Massachusetts, on Friday, September 6, 1985. Officer Decker and Officer Wilcox were shot and killed while attempting to question a suspicious man at the Brecksville VA Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, January 31, 1986. Officer Hearn was shot and killed while operating a metal detector at the Bronx VA Hospital in New York City, New York, on Monday, July 25, 1988. Officer Ross suffered a fatal heart attack after restraining an assaultive, mentally deranged patient at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC, on Monday, December 24, 1990. Officer Woods was shot and killed by an assailant who was kneeling down beside his patrol car in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Tuesday, January 9, 1996. Officer Jose Rodriguez-Reyes was shot and killed while stationed at a gate at the Veterans Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Wednesday, April 24, 2002.
