The Featherstone Music Instructional Division is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving a complete musical education to children of all ages regardless of race, economic, or social background with concentration on children living in the urban community. Students are taught all forms of music, Classical, Jazz, and World or Cultural music forms as well as Music Theory. They are taught discipline through technical (classical) music and develop creativity through improvisation ( jazz formats). We believes that all children, if given the opportunity can learn to play any given instrument. Each student is instructed in the practical forms of their instrument or voice as well as in the theory of music. Students are trained in the Bach to Blues developed by Tegra Featherstone in 1987. Teachers also follow the Trinity College London syllabus for graded examinations held at Towson University. We feel that all children should be given the opportunity to learn a instrument and to learn it well. In the urban community few have the resources needed to give music lessons to their children. We take into consideration the very limited if any music instruction in the public school system. In the Baltimore Metropolitan area the vast majority of families cannot afford $60.00 per hour. FSM Instructional has consistently kept their tuition at an affordable rate. The following pages will tell you more about Featherstone Music Instructional Division and its unique approach to teaching. |
