Posted 4/1/07 New Concerns about Dog Actvities have been voiced by Downtown Preparitory School ( Hester ). Members of LHS and local neighbors met with school officials to discuss their concerns and best ways to address them. The school is upset by the constant droppings found on the grounds, pets bothering non-pet people, dogs in the children's play areas and the use of the water fountains to give animals a drink. A flyer stating these concerns has been created as a hand-out for dog walkers who use the school grounds. If you would like a copy of the flyer, please contact LHS Chairman, Bob Walker. LHS asks that everyone abide by the rules so that the old Hester grounds may remain a useable area for pet excerise and community socializing. Mr. Funk, Principal of Lincoln High School announced the finalized plans for the redevelopment of the campus athletic grounds. In the plans, there is call for much less fencing than orginally scheduled, leaving greater portion of the feild as open space. Most of the area toward Dana will remain as 'turf' with the majority of fencing concentrated around the old baseball field and a new softball area at the football stadium end of the grounds. Construction will begin in mid to late May, after the baseball season is concluded and will continue through the summer and fall of 2007. Click here for a downloadable detailed Map ( PDF) of the finalized development scheme. New Neighborhood Dog Park Opens in San Jose A new neighborhood style dog park is now open. Sept 25. ACS Grand Opening Great Success.
Around 100 people attended the 11am opening ceremonies, but soon the front and rear parking lots were filled to over-flowing as thousands of pet owners and the curious descended on brand new state-of-the-art animal shelter. The 43,500-square-foot facility is located at 2750 Monterey Road and features its own veterinary hospital, dog-training site and education center and room after room of specialized adoption areas.
The Facility is mind-blowing and if you didn't attend the festivities, you should make it a point to visit in the near future.
One interesting feature at the opening was a DOG PARK table. It appears that San jose has three existing parks, one under construction and seven more proposed. Lincoln was not listed as one of the seven! We need to Rectify that as soon as possible.
The Dog parks listed are as follows:
| Existing | Under Construction | Proposed |
| Miyuki Dog Park Miyuki Drive and Santa Teresa Blvd. Ryland Dog Park Watson Dog park |
Fontana Dog Park Golden Oak and Paseo Pueblo Groundbreaking due 2004 |
Willow Street /Frank Bramhall Park Camden Community Center Delmas Avenue Guadalupe Gardens Penitencia Creek Saratoga Creek Wallenburh and - Lincoln - if we stay at it! |
