On June 2, 1983 a meeting was held at the Omaha Press Club to organize a corral of Westerners International whose membership would be open to women. The meeting was organized by wives of Omaha Corral members, whose corral, started in 1962, limits membership and attendance to men. At the time, the women decided the new corral would welcome men at meetings, but limit membership to women. In 1996, the corral opened its membership to men.
There are 103 corrals in the United States and 27 international corrals meeting for fun and scholarship related to the American West. The Omaha men's corral is the only corral in Westerners International that is not co-ed.
In March, 1984 the corral adopted the name Rachel Snowden in honor of the first woman settler in Omaha.
In December, 1992 Rachel Snowden Corral and the Historical Society of Douglas County published From Dugout to Mansion in memory of Dorothy Devereux Dustin who served as the corral's historian until her death in 1992.
In 1993, Westerners International selected the Rachel Snowden Corral for its Best Corral Award.
