About
Solar Mexico

Solar Mexico is an initiative of Jason West, working collaboratively with the Mexican Foundation for Rural Development (FMDR) and sustained entirely by private donations from residents of the United States, Mexico and elsewhere.  Our mission is to provide renewable energy resources to poor rural families, to improve the quality of life in ways that are environmentally and socially beneficial, and to promote international friendship and cooperation.

FMDR is a nonprofit organization, created and sustained by private initiative. It has more than 40 years of experience improving the lives of rural low-income Mexicans.  Through projects to support development, education, health and energy, FMDR improved the well being of more than 22,000 families and over 1200 rural cooperatives in 2001.

The Daniel A. Okun Chapter of Engineers Without Borders at UNC-Chapel Hill
Since 2004, EWB at UNC has led successful project trips to Cambodia, Peru, and Mexico.  The chapter includes both graduate students and undergraduates, who volunteer towards fundraising, project planning, engineering, and site assessment and implementation trips.  It is a chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA.  Please consider donating to EWB-UNC, in addition to or instead of Solar Mexico. More information is available at: studentorgs.unc.edu/ewb/
