PEOPLE

People like you, your neighbors, coworkers, friends and family run United Way of Chatham County.  The Board of Directors and the Executive Director work together to set policies for the organization.

The United Way idea of community-based fundraising has mobilized people to fight hunger, disease, and poverty for over 100 years.  Here in Chatham County, our United Way history has its roots in 1985 when a group of concerned citizens organized to better meet the needs of our community.

Volunteer with the United Way of Chatham County

Since its beginnings, the national United Way system has been one based on volunteers.  It was started by volunteers, led by volunteers and funded by voluntary gifts.  Local volunteers are involved in every phase of United Way of Chatham County’s operations including office administration, annual workplace and residential fundraising campaigns, and allocations process review. For information about volunteer opportunities with United Way, contact Volunteer Center Coordinator Alane Coore.

Contribute

Many companies participate in annual United Way campaigns.  A United Way campaign gives organizations and their employees the opportunity to learn about our community’s critical health and human service issues, and then work together to support solutions to meet the needs.  Giving through payroll deduction allows you to spread your gift over the whole year.

Our 2007 goal is $558,359 and each community investment brings us closer to reaching that goal.  Every gift, regardless of size, helps someone.

Contributions can also be made directly to United Way through an individual gift

2006 - 2007 Campaign Support

The overwhelming proportion of United Way dollars comes from the residential community. Without the generous contributions of the people of our community, the United Way would not be able to provide the level of support that is currently possible. As our campaign goal increases each year, so will the level of service we are able to provide!

How Your Dollars Have Helped

Last year over 20,000 Chatham County residents were served by United Way agencies.
That’s 1 in every 3 people!
